M&A Roundup: UBEO Adds CMC Business Systems, Ford Office Technologies Obtains KOMAX Business Systems

Jim Morrissey, UBEO Business Services

A trio of deals gave the M&A machine some added fuel as the summer winds down. UBEO Business Services bolstered its Texas stronghold while Ford Office Technologies made its second deal in 2026, this time as the winning bidder for a former Elite Dealer through bankruptcy court.

We’ll kick off with UBEO, which added CMC Business Systems, Inc., a trusted Permian Basin office technology provider with over 70 years of local service. The move strengthens UBEO’s longstanding presence in West Texas and gives area businesses access to a broader range of technology solutions, all delivered by the same local team customers have relied on for decades.

Founded in 1956 by the late Ted Holeva as West Texas Business Forms, Inc., the company grew alongside the region it serves. Ted began selling copying machines that same year, eventually renaming the business Copying Machines Corp. and later CMC Business Systems, Inc. to reflect its expanding product line. Today, under the leadership of President Patrick Holeva, CMC continues to operate by a simple principle passed down from its founder: take care of the customer, and the customer will take care of you.

UBEO has proudly served West Texas for many years, and this acquisition significantly expands its regional footprint. Customers will continue working with the familiar faces and hometown service that built CMC’s reputation, now backed by the resources and expertise of a national business technology leader. In short, it is the best of both worlds: local relationships paired with expanded capabilities.

Through UBEO, CMC customers gain access to a full suite of solutions, including ECM software, copiers and printers, document digitization, workflow optimization, managed print services, data and file security, cloud fax, and wide format printing. UBEO’s commitment to service is reflected in its performance numbers: a 94% first-call fix rate, 97% client retention, and an 86 Net Promoter Score (4.8 out of 5 stars).

“Bringing CMC into the UBEO company was an easy decision for us— this event highlights UBEO’s commitment to West Texas. CMC brings tremendous value to our company, and local customers will be the ones who benefit the most with everything that we bring to our customers,” said Jim Morrissey, president of UBEO.

“The decision to transition our company was an emotional one. UBEO is our best and first choice as a next step. My primary focus is taking care of my team and ensuring my customers get the experience we promised them. I know UBEO will deliver on both. I’m very excited for the company’s future,” said Patrick Holeva, president of CMC Business Systems, Inc. reflecting on the company’s history and the decision to join UBEO.

Ford Office Technologies-KOMAX Business Systems

A premier regional provider of office technology and managed business solutions, Ford Office Technologies has officially announced its acquisition of Komax, following the conclusion of bankruptcy proceedings where Ford was named the winning bidder. The transition, effective July 20, marks another major milestone in Ford’s targeted regional growth and solidifies its capacity to deliver secure, enterprise-grade business solutions across the Mid-Atlantic.

The acquisition brings Komax’s extensive customer base into the Ford ecosystem, immediately providing long-term operational stability and direct access to an expanded portfolio of advanced office technologies. While maintaining the core print and copier support structures that Komax clients rely on, Ford will introduce its specialized suite of secondary services to the client base, including Managed IT services, comprehensive cybersecurity frameworks, cloud-based data management, and unified communications (VoIP).

To ensure a seamless handoff, Ford Office Technologies is working directly with Komax leadership and technical personnel during the operational integration. This approach prioritizes service continuity, ensuring that client environments remain stable and supported by familiar technical professionals who understand their specific operational needs.

KOMAX Business Systems of South Charleston, West Virginia, has been a multi-year ENX Magazine Elite Dealer.

“Our main objective with this acquisition is to provide immediate, absolute security to Komax clients,” said Johnathan Garlow, CEO of Ford Office Technologies. “We recognize that navigating a vendor’s structural transition introduces uncertainty. Ford brings the corporate health, established manufacturer channels, and deep logistical infrastructure required to protect these accounts and elevate their long-term technology experience.”

Administratively, the operational transition is structured for maximum client convenience. Account systems, service ticketing, and billing workflows will be systematically integrated into Ford’s centralized platforms over the coming days. Existing client communication channels remain open, and customers will receive direct guidance from the joint integration team regarding standard administrative updates.

This acquisition directly supports Ford Office Technologies’ long-term vision of expanding its footprint throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland, establishing the organization as the definitive single-source provider for modern workplace technology.
