KDI Office Technology Doing its Part to Support Camp Out for Hunger

Though our country is relatively young, it is steeped in tradition. Take Thanksgiving Day. We will sit down with relatives we sometimes see only a couple of times per year (and often for good reason) and enjoy a turkey meal with all the trimmings before falling asleep by halftime of the Cowboys-Redskins game.

Much like Christmas, we sometimes lose sight of the real reason behind such holidays, which in this case is to be thankful for the blessings we have and remain mindful of those less fortunate than us who have more somber issues other than who’s hogging the remote control. (And for now, we’ll ignore the hypocrisy of being thankful for our blessings one day, then storming retailers the next day for Black Friday sales.)

While we worry about advancing a pant size during the holidays, there are millions of people for whom day-to-day survival is a sad reality. This only underscores the need to help provide for the countless thousands of households that must turn to resources like Philabundance, the largest food bank here in my backyard of the Delaware Valley, where an estimated one in five people do not have enough to eat. Each week, Philabundance provides food for 90,000 children, seniors, students, the working poor, veterans and single parents. It relies on 15,000 volunteers, many of whom are clients, and is fortified through a number of programs, not the least of which is the Preston & Steve Camp Out for Hunger, which has grown to the single-largest food drive in the country.

The Preston & Steve Show has been a staple of radio station 93.3 WMMR for more than 15 years, and its Camp Out for Hunger campaign—a five-day event that takes place at XFINITY Live! located at the sports complex in Philadelphia—pulls down more than a million pounds of food and in excess of $100,000 in monetary donations. And for the third year in a row, Aston, PA-based KDI Office Technology is doing its part to help promote the event.

KDI is using its billboard (see picture) to trumpet Camp Out for Hunger, which takes place Nov. 26-30, with Preston & Steve’s morning show team broadcasting from the XFINITY Live! site. The billboards are situated along two very heavily commuted highways and will certainly reach millions of eyes during the promotional period.

The dealer is also spicing up the prizes being presented to some of the larger Camp Out donors by contributing two complimentary foursomes to Blue Heron Pine Golf Club (including golf cart use). These packages will be given to the top two largest individual donors on Nov. 30.

Rick Salcedo, KDI Office Technology

“Preston & Steve’s Camp Out for Hunger is a terrific annual event that really mobilizes the Delaware Valley region to do their part in helping Philabundance provide the needy with food sources,” said KDI President and CEO Rick Salcedo. “We’re happy to promote their efforts through our billboards and golf package prizes to the largest donors. This region-wide effort is another example of why Philadelphia truly is the City of Brotherly Love.”

KDI Office Technology is but one of many dealers and businesses alike who rally corporate and employee efforts to support charitable organizations, and you can read about many more in a couple of weeks when our December Elite Dealer issue reaches your mailbox. And when you consider how many people are facing dire circumstances, including those impacted by the California wildfires, it really falls upon each of us to do our part in reducing the burden on others.
