Kyocera Joins the Information Technology Industry Council’s Sustainability Policy Group

Fairfield, NJ (July 12, 2023) – Kyocera Document Solutions America Inc. is proud to announce its membership in the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI)’s Sustainability Policy Group (SPG).

As part of its continuous commitment to manufacturing sustainable products and helping businesses across the world reduce their carbon footprint, Kyocera Document Solutions America, Inc., one of the world’s leading document solutions companies, will join other leading organizations in the technology sector to drive practices, strategies and innovations that foster sustainable economic development.

ITI actively champions the interests of the world’s foremost technology companies, advocating for policies that foster innovation, encourage open markets and safeguard healthy competition. The council’s membership roster is a who’s who of the tech industry and runs the gamut of businesses, from hardware makers to software developers and beyond. This past Earth Day, ITI laid out its environmental and sustainability priorities, which include combating climate change, promoting green procurement, and advancing circularity in products.

As a member of ITI’s SPG, Kyocera will have the opportunity to collaborate with other prominent companies on significant initiatives and discussions centered around the future of the technology sector, its role in driving global sustainability and strategies to foster innovation across the entire product lifecycle. The company will also benefit from ITI’s premier educational resources regarding the latest developments impacting the technology industry, along with strategic guidance that assesses the impact of regulations on our business.

“Our inclusion in ITI’s Sustainability Policy Group marks an exciting new chapter in Kyocera’s long history of commitment to sustainable innovation,” says Óscar Sánchez, President & CEO of Kyocera Document Solutions America, Inc. “The philosophy created by our founder, Dr. Kazuo Inamori, inspires us to do the right thing as human beings and find new ways to ensure we leave the planet intact for future generations. By providing our voice and expertise in manufacturing long-life products, we can contribute to a more sustainable approach to technological innovation.”

The company’s environmental policy is rooted in the “KYOCERA Environmental Charter,” which was established in October 1991 to reduce Kyocera’s impact on the environment and set the path toward sustainability across the value chain. Since then, the company has tackled a range of sustainability challenges, including climate change. Kyocera has set targets to reduce CO2 emissions in its supply chain, introducing solar power at its plants and promoting technological advancements to extend the service life of its products.

Kyocera’s sustainability efforts in many of its plants and business sites across the world have earned the ISO 14001 environment certification, which the company has proudly held for more than 20 years. Furthermore, Kyocera adheres to 3R design (reduction, reuse, recycle), which means that 99% of its components and products are officially green. The company’s products are also registered in the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT), a system that makes it easy to select high-performance electronics that support sustainability goals. Kyocera’s products have also earned certifications for labels like “Eco Mark,” “Green Purchasing Law Compliant” and “Blue Angel.”

In addition, the ECO footPRINT Toner Recycling Program enables customers to recycle Kyocera toner cartridges for free. Every single Kyocera toner cartridge is transformed into useful objects like park benches, pens and asphalt. Earlier this year, Kyocera was also announced as a 2023 Worldstar Global Packaging Award winner for its innovative shipping solution for ink supply units.

The milestones above merely scratch the surface of Kyocera’s long history of sustainability initiatives, which extend to the company’s biodiversity conservation work across the globe and environmentally conscious supply chain management. Kyocera looks forward to leading the way to a more sustainable future alongside the other technology leaders in ITI’s SPG.
