University of Colorado’s Masters of the Environment Program Partners with PrintReleaf

PrintReleaf has partnered with the University of Colorado’s Masters of the Environment Program to facilitate Capstone Projects for its Masters students interested in working in the private sector to contribute to solutions to current global environmental problems.

The University of Colorado Masters of the Environment (CU-MENV) is a professional Master’s degree program that is administered by the Environmental Studies Program, but partners with units and disciplines across the Boulder campus including the Environmental Design Program, Colorado Law, the Leeds School of Business, and the Department of Economics, and organizations and institutions in the community. It is a 17-month, cohort-based, professional degree program designed for new and early career professionals. The program focuses on leadership, applications, and problem-solving and has five primary curricular components: (1) the core curriculum, (2) a choice of topical specializations that are supported by (3) skills and techniques courses, (4) electives, and (5) a Capstone project.

Through the Capstone project, select students will work with PrintReleaf, their reforestation partners, and SGS International to further refine and evolve the field audit process for quantifying forest density (biomass) in relation to paper consumption measured by the PrintReleaf Exchange [PRX] – the world’s first platform for automating measurement and reforestation of paper-based products.

“To effectively address today’s most complex environmental and sustainability challenges, it is imperative that we form more meaningful partnerships and alliances across industries and sectors” said Joel Hartter, Faculty Director for CU-MENV. “The partnership between the University of Colorado Boulder’s Masters of the Environment graduate program and PrintReleaf represents a critical step in connecting academia to industry, and highlights the increasing importance of integrating business and technology to make significant environmental and social impacts. We are thrilled that our students will be part of such an innovative and exciting project!”

“We couldn’t be more excited to join forces with the University of Colorado to introduce their bright and enthusiastic Masters students to our company” said Jordan Darragh, PrintReleaf’s CEO. “Our partnership forms at a time when PrintReleaf’s rate of reforestation is beginning to compound and accelerate year over year. We are developing new projects around the world – in India, Ireland, and the U.S. – in addition to our existing projects in Central and South America, and Africa. With the emergence and adoption of new technologies in GIS, we’re very interested in the thinking stemming from today’s Master’s students to impact our company and the environment and… we believe the Masters students at the University of Colorado are on the leading edge of the curve that can positively contribute to our business and our industry.”
