Ultra-competitive. High-energy. Risk-taker. These are definitely not the keywords one would associate with a leasing industry job description. Then again, Steve Mosley is not your garden variety, straight-laced financing professional.
The senior vice president, director of sales for LEAF Commercial Capital is probably as close to swashbuckling as you’re going to get in that business. Mosley admits to having a very competitive nature and a burning desire to be “one of the best.” A turning point early in his career was an example of how he was prepared to roll the dice in order to carve out his niche among the top performers.
Mosley had been working as a credit manager for six years when the opportunity to take an outside sales representative position with a large finance company presented itself. He felt safe in his then-current role. Also, the new gig came with its share of unknowns. And the choice would become even more difficult.
“I had a tough decision between a lucrative counteroffer from my current employer and the unknown potential of the new role,” said Mosley, a 2025 ENX Magazine Difference Maker. “I took a chance on the new role and it paid off exponentially. It showed me that reward requires risk.”
Upon graduating with a BSBA from East Carolina University (ECU) in 1997, Mosley embarked on the world of automotive finance, which served him well for the first dozen years of his professional career. But the Great Recession of 2008 triggered a shift in subprime auto financing, which led to his position (and his entire team) being eliminated. On a lark, Mosley answered an open house ad in his hometown newspaper, which paved his entry into the office tech universe as an account rep for CopyPro Inc.

The industry was most agreeable to Mosley. In just under five years, he qualified for the president’s club trip four years running. In 2010, he was named the company’s sales executive of the year and garnered the distinction of becoming the first rep in the dealer’s 40-year history to eclipse the $1 million plateau. In fact, he averaged 31% territory growth annually.
That experience proved pivotal when he joined LEAF in 2020, initially as an account executive for office equipment leasing. The company enabled Mosley to flourish as a disruptor, allowing him to propose changes, best practices and improvements that he gleaned from his previous experiences with four lenders.

“I have served on various committees and teams that have helped shape the rapid growth of our office products division over the past five years,” he pointed out.
Mosley notes he’s “thoroughly enjoyed” his first year as the business unit leader of LEAF’s office products team, and will continue to push himself to greater heights. “I continue to hone my skills as a leader through ongoing leadership training and, most importantly, real-world experience,” he added.
On the home front, Mosley and his wife of 25 years, Kim, have two children. Their daughter, Raechel, is attending ECU to attain a master’s degree in public health administration. Luke, their son, also attends ECU and competes on the men’s golf team. The family enjoys spending summers at the Crystal Coast of North Carolina, and they rate Atlantis (Bahamas) as their favorite vacation destination.
