Before You Go Poll: Reader Vacation Plans Revealed

You might have noticed last week that we added a new feature to our newsletter, the Before You Go Poll. With all the negativity we’re hearing and reading from the mainstream media, we figured a light-hearted approach to polling would be a pleasant distraction from the talk of inflation, recession, supply chain woes and other pandemic-related nonsense.

Since we’re approaching the dog days of August, we felt it appropriate to kick off our polling with a predictable question: Where are you going for vacation this summer? Given how stir-crazy everyone became during the COVID lockdown, it comes as little surprise that the top response was “Grab the passport, I’m heading overseas,” which topped out at 21% of responders.

Since times are tight, it’s also not a shocker to see that the second-highest response was “Vacation…what is that?” at almost 17%. That’s also a sign of workaholic tendencies; be sure to make time for yourself at some point this year!

We had a three-way tie for third place between “Tropical paradise,” “RVing/hiking/camping/mountains” and “Boating/sailing” at 14%. This writer ended up selecting a long weekend in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, where the wildlife was literally walking through your backyard.

Nine percent have taken or planned “A nice cruise.” Another 7% noted, “A local beach and a stack of books is all I need.” It was surprising to see that only one person selected “Hunting/fishing,” but perhaps it’s a seasonal thing.

Thank you to all who participated, and be sure to watch out for our next poll. I’m always open to poll ideas, so give me an email shout if you have any suggestions.
