This writer is excited about the Major League Baseball season being roughly a month away from commencing. Sure, there’s snow everywhere we look, but there’s a big ball of sunshine waiting underneath that big mess. It’s a numbers game; after all, Punxsutawney Phil told us three weeks ago that we weren’t going to have an early spring.
Talking about baseball got me to thinking about the new-age statistic that many of us traditionalists cannot stand. It’s wins above replacement (a.k.a. WAR) and it was designed to measure the worth of a player compared to an average-level replacement player. There’s a very convoluted formula involved, but the main takeaway is that it expresses someone’s overall value via a single number.
Nominate a Difference Maker today!
As we send you this gentle reminder about nominating a 2026 Difference Maker to be recognized in the May issue of ENX Magazine, consider this exercise. Think about the members of your staff, or the partners (as a whole) your company collaborates with on a daily basis. Even though it’s more of a subjective exercise, who is the one person or persons who rise the most above the norm, in your estimation? We’re not comparing CEOs to CTOs; whose shoes would be the hardest to fill from an apples-to-apples viewpoint?
Anyone can be replaced. But who has the best WAR score among your team members or partners? Whose loss would be the most keenly felt? Now, take that name, click on this link, and enter their information to be considered as a Difference Maker. Think of the write-up as being the text on the back of an office technology industry trading card, and explain why he/she is so valuable.
Incredibly, the deadline for entries is March 6, a week from Friday.
