Panasonic Scanners First to Earn Drummond Hardware Certification

Newark, NJ (October 4, 2016) — Panasonic System Communications Company of North America, an industry-leading producer of best-in-class document management and imaging solutions, today announced that its entire line of document scanner drivers has successfully passed the full Drummond Group, Inc. test suite for compatibility with any EMR/EHR, PM, and ECM electronic medical records systems.

In making the announcement, Senior Business Development Manager Peter Bedell noted that the Drummond Group certification makes Panasonic the first scanner manufacturer to offer hospital and physician practice IT Directors independent third-party certified test lab assurance that its scanners will be interoperable with popular health information and practice management solutions.

“We see this as a win for our hospital and physician practice customers who historically have had the burden of determining compatibility for themselves,” said Bedell. “Now we can take the guesswork out of making technology decisions by placing the responsibility for compatibility where it should be: with the hardware manufacturer and the software vendors. Certification upfront saves downtime and support calls in the future.”

“Drummond has been in the testing business for years, and we believe strongly in the need for open standards that are fostered as part of a community forum,” said David Dolan, President of the Drummond Group. “We see scanner certification testing as an extension of what we are already doing with EMR/EHR testing and certification. It gives customers the confidence of knowing before they buy, and it helps hardware and software vendors collaborate better to cut down on development time and catch bugs early.”

According to Dolan, the scanner device driver test suite is part of Drummond’s renewed emphasis on strengthening the driver-level compatibility of hardware devices with software systems to eliminate technical support issues and streamline platform deployments.

In addition to scanner manufacturers seeking testing and certification, Drummond’s test suite compatibility analysis is a valuable tool for healthcare providers running medical records and document imaging systems that use TWAIN drivers to communicate with scanning hardware. In addition to providing independent compatibility testing, Drummond has joined the TWAIN Working Group to help keep development of the standard progressive and innovative as many healthcare systems move from on-premise to cloud storage and many healthcare providers are forced to migrate from one platform to another due to the rapid rate of consolidation and mergers in their industry.
