New Océ JetStream 5500 Mono Inkjet Press Offers Maximum Productivity

October 7, 2012 – Océ, a Canon Group company has announced the Océ JetStream 5500 mono printing system, further extending the Océ continuous feed inkjet portfolio. The Océ JetStream 5500 mono is the fastest printer of the Océ JetStream Wide mono series, giving the print provider new economies of scale and increased productivity, according to a company press announcement.

The Océ JetStream 5500 mono inkjet printing system is an 833 feet-per-minute monochrome production printer with a 30-inch wide paper transport. It produces 5,450 letter images per minute at a resolution of 600 x 480 dpi with multilevel imaging technology representing the ultimate in productivity and print quality. This makes the Océ JetStream 5500 mono inkjet press ideal for book, manual, newspaper and transaction printing. For example, trade books in the 6 x 9-inch format can be printed 4-up, allowing for maximum productivity. This reduces the cost per book produced and strongly drives the economies of scale in favor of the print provider, notes Océ.

Continuous high-quality printing is achieved with the Océ DigiDot inkjet technology that generates 1200 dpi perceived image quality at up to 656 feet per minute and 600 x 480 dpi multilevel image quality at a speed of 833 feet per minute with either dye or pigment-based ink.

Océ PRISMAproduction Software Suite output management system solution for digital web-fed production printers, coupled with the Océ SRA MP controller with its unrivalled performance, drives variable data at an uninterrupted production speed of 833 feet per minute on a 30″ wide web.

A new feature for the book and newspaper printing industry is the support of the native PDF (Adobe PDF Print Engine 2.5) format, which is ripped directly on the printer controller, eliminating the costly and time-consuming intermediate process.

Océ ColorStream 3900 U.S. Premiere at Graph Expo

One of the newest members of the Océ ColorStream 3000 series, the Océ ColorStream 3900 system is also the fastest model in the series offering a process speed of 417 feet per minute.  That translates to 909 letter-size images per minute for a single unit or 1,818 letter-size impressions per minute in a twin configuration. Monthly volumes of up to 59 million letter-size images can be achieved.

During Graph Expo, attendees will see the speed of the printing system in action. Applications being printed at the show range from a full-color, full-bleed comic book, a Toulouse-Lautrec poster art book, a Yellowstone National Park guide book and National Parks wall calendar, as well as children’s books and direct mail. Samples of all the applications will be available in Canon booth 400.

The Océ ColorStream 3900 model features two production modes. For print jobs with short production windows and tight cost constraints, the performance mode of the Océ ColorStream 3900 model operates at 417 feet per minute at 600 x 480 dpi resolution with multilevel dot modulation, producing excellent quality at top speed. For even higher quality requirements, the premium mode enables printing at 1200 dpi perceived image quality with 328 feet per minute or 1,428 letter- size images per minute.

The high-speed Océ ColorStream 3900 model uses piezo-electric drop-on-demand inkjet printheads that allow very high speeds with a consistent perceived print quality of up to 1200 dpi using multilevel droplet modulation.

EFI PrintMe Mobile L100 Enables Secure Wi-Fi Printing Across Subnets from Mobile Devices in the Enterprise

Oct. 2, 2012 – EFI has announced the PrintMe Mobile L100, a Linux-based appliance that enables Wi-Fi printing across subnets. The L100 appliance also allows IT departments to provide secure Wi-Fi printing for guests from mobile devices outside the corporate network to printers inside the corporate firewall. The L100 appliance solves the problem now plaguing organizations – the need to print from a variety of mobile devices to printers on other wireless subnets. The appliance’s technology is revolutionary in the way it manages the Bonjour protocol (AirPrint) within the enterprise. When placed on a wireless subnet and used in conjunction with PrintMe Mobile software, the L100 appliance broadcasts the available printers so mobile devices on that subnet can print to any printer on the network. IT departments can centrally manage this functionality from the PrintMe Mobile administrative console making it convenient to control tens to hundreds of subnets from one location.

The L100 appliance operates securely by publishing a list of administrator-selected printers on the corporate network to devices outside the corporate firewall. This secure Wi-Fi printing is perfect for employees who bring their own devices (BYOD), field sales people and visitors using the guest network.

With Epson Connect, users can conveniently print documents on-the-go, whether from their couch or across the globe.

The WorkForce WF-3540 and WF-3520 output at 15 ISO ppm (black) and 9.2 ISO ppm (color) with printing costs up to 40 percent lower than color laser printers, according to Epson. The two models also offer savings up to 50 percent on paper with automatic two-sided printing, scanning, copying and faxing, making them ideal for eco-conscious, high-volume small or home office use. The WorkForce WF-3540 and WF-3520 offer increased productivity features, including high page capacity (500 sheets for the WF-3540; 250 for the WF-3520) and extra high-capacity ink cartridges5 for minimal user intervention. Plus, the 30-sheet duplex ADF, sturdy front paper trays, and rear paper feed accommodate a variety of paper types and stock including envelopes, card stock and other specialty media for increased versatility in paper handling.

The models also offer an improved user interface. The WorkForce WF-3540’s intuitive 3.5-inch touch LCD is equipped with new gesture navigation so users can easily “swipe” through the printer menu; and the WF-3520 features a 2.5-inch LCD with smooth backlit touch panel for improved visibility.
