ITC Systems Implements Major Improvements to Laurentian University`s Campus Card Systems

January 7, 2015 – Toronto, ON—Students and staff at Laurentian University are enjoying major improvements in their campus card experience this fall thanks to a relatively simple system upgrade implemented over the summer by ITC Systems. The upgrade allowed the university to retain most of its original hardware while benefitting from the extensive capabilities provided by MultiPlan, ITC Systems’ campus commerce management software.

“We’ve had a long and very positive relationship with Laurentian,” says ITC Systems CEO and President Campbell Richardson. “When we found out that they were interested in a new one card system, we showed them how their existing system could be easily adapted to unleash an enormous amount of new capability.”

ITC Systems began supplying Laurentian with transaction control services in 1989 and although the original legacy card system in place was working well, it was based on old technology. Students were required to carry multiple cards to make purchases on campus, and administrative staff were tied up in complex reporting procedures that required them to take equipment offline and out of service on a regular basis in order to print reports.

Laurentian was already using MultiPlan for the food services area and ITC Systems extended MultiPlan to the university’s laundry and copy/printing areas this year. Laurentian uses PaperCut MF to control print/copy on campus and, as a PaperCut ASC (Authorized Solutions Center), ITC Systems has developed a highly sophisticated integration protocol that allows PaperCut to work seamlessly with the MultiPlan solution.

In fact, ITC Systems has developed ways to synchronize MultiPlan and PaperCut with almost any legacy system in existence.

“If Laurentian decides in future to expand the MultiPlan system to other areas, such as parking and access control, it can be easily done,” Mr. Richardson notes. “In the meantime, reporting and reconciliations for existing services are dramatically easier than they used to be and administrators are saving a huge amount of time.”

The student experience is also dramatically better than it used to be.
