With 37 years\nunder his belt, McGuirk has carved his own unique path\u2014backed by the tutelage\nand guidance of some highly-respected industry veterans\u2014and earned a spot among\nthe 2019 <em>ENX Magazine<\/em> Difference\nMakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo me, it\u2019s really simple\u2014do what you say you are going to\ndo and people will trust you and eventually want to take the hill for you,\u201d\nMcGuirk noted. \u201cOur culture is we can do anything as a team and accomplish so\nmuch when no one cares about who gets the credit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While a team player at heart, McGuirk simply loves watching the personal development of ProCopy employees, particularly those who might not have much in terms of a business or industry background but eventually become great at their jobs. Whether they continue to thrive with ProCopy or spread their wings in another industry, McGuirk knows his team has done its part in aiding their development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEven if they leave us for another industry, we helped them\nget ready to take on the world,\u201d he said. \u201cThat is why I still love doing this\n37 years down the road.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It didn\u2019t take long for this Arizona State University\ngraduate to hear the siren song of the industry. His best friend\/fraternity\nbrother nailed down a job with Xerox upon graduating, and the brother of a\nclose childhood friend landed a gig with A.B. Dick. According to McGuirk, both\nmen loved their jobs and were making great money\u2014two elements that truly\nappealed to his 22-year-old self.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Deft Guidance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McGuirk\u2019s journey through the industry enabled him to rub\nelbows with several respected luminaries, including Gary Clancy of Uni-Copy,\nDan Doyle of Danka, Tom Johnson and Tom Metzler of Global Imaging, and Frank\nGaspari of Flex Technology Group (parent company of ProCopy, which McGuirk\njoined in 2010). Johnson offered at least one nugget of advice that has stuck\nwith McGuirk\u2026all of business is making changes in anticipation of change being\nshoved down your throat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey all shared one basic value: it is always the right\ntime to do the right thing,\u201d McGuirk observed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McGuirk had an instant impact at ProCopy. The company\nincreased its revenues and profits five times in less than five years. And\nwhile the dealer joined the FTG collective three years ago, the DNA of the\ncompany has remained firmly in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have a\n\u201cheave-ho\u201d mentality meaning everyone grabs the rope when it comes to our customers,\u201d\nhe said. \u201cI am proud of our people and the leadership at FTG for allowing that\nto continue to flow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"286\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/www.enxmag.com\/twii\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/2019-Difference-Makers-emblem-1-286x300-2-286x300.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36565\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>While revenue and\nprofit growth are high on the priority list moving forward, McGuirk also sees\nthe value in proliferating the brand and supporting the community. On the\nlatter count, the ProCopy Foundation is aimed at giving back and especially\nsupporting youth. Better citizens make better business partners, he adds, and\nthat partnership mentality is at the heart of ProCopy\u2019s ascension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Highly Active<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond the walls of ProCopy, McGuirk has made his presence\nfelt with other organizations, including board positions with the Business\nTechnology Association, Ricoh\u2019s National Dealer Council, the ASU alumni\nassociation and the Better Business Bureau. He is also president of the Select\nDealer Group peer organization. Still, McGuirk hasn\u2019t forgotten his roots when\nit comes to personal improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is almost the\nsame as president as it was when I started as an entry-level sales rep who was\nranked 41 out of 44 reps during his first 6 months,\u201d McGuirk noted. \u201cIt is\ngrinding away, nibbling away at a lot of little things that turn into big\nthings.&nbsp;For me, it is not forgetting where I came from but also not losing\nsight about where we are going.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McGuirk and his wife, Kelly, have been married for 19 years. \u201cWe\nlove to travel and laugh at each other, and try to squeeze a lot of living out\nof life,\u201d he noted. They have three grown children\u2014Matt, Nick and Makenzie.
