Now, to anyone under the age of 40, the Isles are a long-suffering NHL franchise. But those of a certain age recall a time when Long Island was home to a hockey dynasty, a four-time Stanley Cup champion and North America’s team sport record holder for consecutive playoff series victories at 19. That’s the Islanders Olds fondly remembers.

So what does one of the most venerated teams in hockey history have to do with Olds, the executive vice president, business partner group president for Canon U.S.A.? Other than the fact that the headquarters for both the Isles (Elmont) and Canon (Melville) are less than 20 miles apart, the manufacturer of printers and related imaging technology continues to boast a first-place standing as the acknowledged (and undisputed) market leader.

Whether Canon is a manufacturing dynasty on par with the Isles remains to be seen, but as Olds addressed the crowd of about 300 at Canon Summit 2025, held Sept. 23-24 at The Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, his matter-of-fact confidence shined through during a 40-minute presentation to open the event. One, Olds wanted to make clear the points of differentiation that set Canon apart from its competitors.
