The managing director of Y Soft Latin America\nhas spent virtually a lifetime deeply entrenched and dabbling in the many\nflavors of IT\u2019s menu. Frankly, as long as a task doesn\u2019t involve writing\ndocumentation, the experience feels nothing like work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Growing up, Velinski recalls the unbridled enthusiasm he\nexperienced while tinkering with his new Apple II+, which was difficult to\nobtain in his native Bulgaria. His friends were hooked on Pac-Man. Velinski was\nbusy cultivating a future. He just didn\u2019t know it yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Playing with new toys and developing products from scratch\nhas blossomed into a full-blown passion for Velinski. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI always work on two or three things at the same time, and I always keep myself busy,\u201d said Velinski, a 2020 <em>ENX Magazine<\/em> Difference Maker. \u201cThere is always something new that challenges me to learn, and most of the time, it doesn\u2019t feel like working at all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The beauty of technology for Velinski is the limitless\npotential it offers; as such, he has a reputation for not taking \u201cno\u201d as an answer.\n\u201cAnything is possible,\u201d he notes, \u201cif you are willing to invest time and\neffort.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That very point was driven home to Velinski during his\nformative years. While tending to some rather vanilla projects earlier in his\ncareer, a colleague came to him with a particular task. A new color printer had\narrived in a big box marked \u201cEFI RIP.\u201d The challenge: print from a new platform\ncalled Photoshop from a Mac to the printer. Absent a network, Velinski and his\ncolleague had to use an SCSI connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt took us three days to figure out how to make it work,\nbut when the first picture came out after 30 minutes of waiting, I knew that\nthis was something I wanted to do,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tech Trip<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Velinski spent three years studying process automation until a summer vacation became a \u201csummer migration\u201d to Latin America. With Y Soft, he\u2019s guided the company\u2019s cloud strategy for North and\nLatin America, including laying the foundation for YSoft SafeQ in the cloud.\nVelinski designed its Edge devices to be able to support any architecture a\ncustomer may need.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Velinski considers himself to be a staunch open-source proponent. \u201cI was influenced a lot by the open-source movement and the cooperation that comes as a result of it,\u201d he said. \u201cI dedicate a lot of time convincing people about this idea.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the years, Velinski has worked on his ability to share\nthe wealth of knowledge he\u2019s accumulated during his career. Computers and\ntechnology may come easy to him, but teaching it is a discipline unto itself.\nFor example, last year Velinski overcame his teaching stumbling blocks and was\nable to instruct his son on how to program in Python. Raising that aspect of\nhis game will be critical as Velinski continues down the path of learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Learning Potential<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe\ngood thing about my job is that you never stop learning. There is always a new\n\u2018cool\u2019 language that you can learn, a new skill that you can improve and a new\nproduct that you can help to develop or place on the market,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\nis&nbsp;a never-ending circle, and if you want to stay in the game, you need to\nimprove every day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When he\u2019s not working on cloud initiatives or tinkering with IT toys, Velinski can be found on the tennis court just about every day. He also participates in weekend league competition. The frequency of business travel allows Velinski to visit his 17-year-old son, who lives and studies in Spain. The younger Velinski is also a top-notch tennis player, and the father-son combo enjoys competing in doubles competition.
