The Office People’s Sean Mummert Adds Joy to Customers’ Experience

One of the challenges, and perhaps opportunities, presented in the quest to provide quality customer service is the notion that no one loves buying a copier. And Sean Mummert is out to change that by expanding the customer experience.

The founder and president of The Office People (TOP) has twin passions when it comes to his business. Mummert loves watching his employees grow and thrive alongside the company, and he’s out to make sure his customers reap TOP’s solutions way beyond both the copier and conventional thinking boxes. These attributes helped earn Mummert a 2017 ENX Magazine Difference Maker award.

“We are always trying to improve our business plan and invest in our staff and technology to help us be better communicators and foster transparency with clients,” Mummert observed. “We also love giving back to the community through the TOP Fun Team. We sponsor and support numerous charities and local events that help the community.”

Mummert’s goal when he founded TOP was to create a true total office solutions company, with a myriad of offerings ranging from interior design and AV solutions to digital signage, MPS, office furniture, website design, network services and document management.

“We can set up everything you need to open or run an office with just one company and one bill,” Mummert remarked. “We love making life easier for our customers.”

Mummert takes his work ethic cues from people including Todd Hazelett, his first boss at Lanier/3M, who liked to say “I don’t care what 12 hours of the day I work because that was only part time.” His mother, too, underscored that notion with one simple piece of advice: Never give up.

Suffice to say, Mummert has set the bar high for himself and the company. In 2016, TOP installed, trained and provided management of a 1,600-device pact in less than six weeks and showed the customers a 20 percent savings by using MPS in the process. The firm shows no signs of slowing down; Mummert wants to grow his company’s MPS base by 10,000 devices in 2017 and expand into new markets through acquisition.

So how does Mummert get customers excited about buying copiers? “It’s in the experience around buying the copier, with better training, personalized messages, account reviews, invitations to special events, local community support and making it fun for the entire TOP team,” he said.

When he’s not exciting customers, Mummert enjoys spending time with his wife, Holly, and their two daughters, Madison and Kiley. The Mummerts love to travel, whether it’s at their beach home on Seabrook Island, hitting their lodge in Asheville, NC, or visiting family in Pennsylvania. One of his favorite trips was touring Italy with Holly.

In his spare time, Mummert is a commercial real estate developer in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
