Subject: Konica Minolta Di 450 Starter PB

Question:
I have a Di 450 that eats the starter at maximum 20,000 copies. I find starter in the toner waste bottle, and I’ve replaced the entire drum unit with one from another machine two times, but the same thing happened. I also cleaned all contacts. Has anyone encountered this situation? (The copier has 350 000 copies, so it is not very old.

Answer: Did you reset the drum and developer counter? Did you run the F8 operation? Did you set the ATDC setting in the adjustments mode? Did you vacuum the developer and blow the ATDC sensor? Just trying to figure what has been done.

Answer: If this is an 8 digit serial, it’s possible the developer assy is bad. They swapped these for the 470 series. It may also be due to a problem with the bias contact.

Question: Unfortunately I have done all these adjustments when I changed the developer, and I even replaced one developer unit from a Di 470 because I understood these units are better, but I had the same results. This copier is put in a place with some metal dust but I don’t think this is the problem because I’ve cleaned it frequently. Maybe it could be a board?

Answer: Metallic dust plus iron oxide in the developer? Could be a possibility. After all, if the dust is fine enough it could get in. Of course in that case, you would need a breathing apparatus to work on it. If it were a board, I’d think it would happen a lot sooner.

Question: Thank you for your answers. If I find a solution I will post it. Thanks again.

Answer: Try replacing the HV unit for the coronas, which may be shorting and pulling developer but not on every copy. I had a bizhub 500 pull this little stunt.

Answer: Something else I remembered: If the transfer guide is too high it will pull developer.

Subject: Canon PC 941
Question: The machine will start to scan the original and then stop and show an E-240 code. Paper stops at the registration roller. I know with some of the machines that will happen with a bad florescent expo lamp but this Canon PC uses a halogen lamp. I cleaned all optics. P.S. The machine has some smoke damage from fire, but water never entered the machine. It is just dusty with smoke film. Time for a new machine I know, but is there anything simple to check? Thanks.

Answer: Is the housing that the latch latches to shut? Is the clam broken on the left or right side?

Answer: Is there a photo SW up in the optics? It seems the scanner triggers the paper re-feed after it stops at the registration roller. If it’s there, take it and wash it in hot soapy water, let it dry and try it. It’s just a guess, but I did have something like this on one of these cheap Canons and that was the fix.

Answer: I’ve had a couple of these over the years and it was the DC controller PCB on the back of the machine. Maybe you can find a parts hog out there somewhere.

Answer: I’ve got some parts, but let’s see what E- 240 is. Ah, here it is: “E240: DC controller or composite power board.” So since it has been smoked I would make sure the AE sensors are clean, pull all connectors from the DC controller (behind the CP) and plug them back in to clean any carbon from the pins, and do the same for the main board (composite PS) on the back. Usually the optical codes are E-220 or 210 and on the PC-900’s that would point me towards the lamp or scanner drive solenoid pin. But with a fire and more importantly smoke exposure machine, you could be facing any of a number of off the wall peculiarities. Good luck and let me know what parts you might need.

Question: I kind of figured it must be something dirty. Where is the AE sensor? I will look around for it. I am going to try and sell this guy something else but in the meantime try to get it going. Thanks

Answer: There is a spring that is by the left rear of the drive assy. The housing that it attaches to breaks; you can put a hole in the shell above the part that breaks off the housing reconnect spring. This will fix the problem.
Subject: Savin 9220DL
Question: I have one jamming right before the resist roller from the LCC tray only when making multiple copies. It feeds find from the lower cassette and duplex tray and all of the solenoids are working correctly. When it does jam, it seems like it may be pushing the paper too far and the resist roller can’t grab it. I’ve tried replacing the feed rollers. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:
If single sheets feed fine and multiples jam, it sounds like there is a problem with the paper feed clutch for that tray.

Answer: Watch the paper very closely to see if it is feeding in and then back out. There is a one way bearing going bad on the end of the feed roller shaft. I’ve seen this problem many times.
