Subject: Ricoh 1060

Question:
I’m working on a 1060 and the document feeder jams intermittently. I’ve replaced the paper feed belt pick up and the separation roller. I also oiled the one way bearings and checked all the gears. Has anyone had this problem? I would greatly appreciate your help.

Answer: Clean all optical sensors, especially the one under the bottom left hand guide plate (unscrew the plate and clean the sensor and the cutout opposite the sensor).

Answer: Also, on the shaft the belt goes over is a white one-way bearing. They can slip, causing jams.

Answer: First of all, do not oil one-way gears; this will cause slipping. Next, clean the one-way on the shaft of the feed belt that goes to the drive at the back with alcohol and then lightly rough up the shaft- that generally fixes the problem. But get the oil out of the one-ways.

Question: It was the optical sensors. Thanks, I really appreciate it

Subject: Konica Minolta BizHub 7222

Question: A customer with this machine had paper jams and now it prints blank copies. I have checked everything I can think of: the corona wires are good, and there are no shortages that I can find. All contacts are in good shape- none are bent or anything like that. Has anyone seen this problem and if so, what was the fix? Thank you.

Answer: Stop the machine in the middle of the copy process and look at the drum. Is the image on the drum? Narrow it down a little.

Question: I am sorry; I forgot to put that in the first message. I did that, and there was no image on the drum.

Answer: I would try reseating your connectors on your printer control board (PRCB) and system control boards. Also make sure that there is toner in the hopper and developer on the magnetic roller, and make sure your drum spins freely.

Question: It has toner and developer. It was making good copies until it started to have paper jams. She said it jammed 4-5 times or more and then started passing copies, but they where dirty and had no image. I cleaned up the dirty look, but now it is a blank page. I have checked all contacts and corona wires.

Answer: The only thing else that I can think of is that the ADU door and the T&S unit aren’t making contact. Check to make sure the T&S unit springs are in the correct position and that the HV casing on the door is fine.

Question: I have checked that already also. I made sure a piece of paper did not get in the contact holes and that the springs were not bent. I also checked to make sure there where no bent or damaged contacts. The only other thing I can think of is the high voltage supply went just as they were having jam problems, but it just does not seem to be that. But thanks for all the help, and if anyone thinks of anything else, let me know. Have a good day. If I figure it out, I will let you know.

Answer: “…But it just does not seem to be that”. I was going to suggest the HV unit but I see the force is strong in you.

Answer: Have you tried to print an “internal test page” from the machine like the management list? Does that print?
Subject: E-studio 16 Fuser Exit Jam

Question: This one is kicking my butt. The machine times out with when the copy is halfway out the fuser. Every time, at the same spot. I have manually checked all switches by disconnecting and immediately showing misfeed at turn on. The image registration on the copy is good, so I assume the registration area is good. All indications lead to the fuser, but physically everything looks good. Hopefully someone has seen this problem before. I will be going back this afternoon to take another look. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer: It may not be the fuser at all. You didn’t mention whether it was throwing a fuser error. Is the lead edge of the paper dinged up at all? If so, then it can be caused by the paper guide fingers on the output assy just above the fuser. The fingers on the left side get “cooked” due to the high fuser temperature in that area. Check the bottoms of each one and you may find that they have small chunks taken out of them. This can cause what seems like a fuser jam, but is not. Good luck.

Answer: Sometimes the exit guides have burrs and I’ve had to remove or file them off. Or, it may be caused by wrong paper size settings?

Question: I hate to admit it, but it happens. It turns out it was due to wrong paper size settings. I learn something new every day. The machine was set to 81/2x14 and had 81/2 x 11 paper in the drawer. I won’t forget that one, and I will probably never run across it again. Thanks everyone for your responses.
Subject: Toshiba ES 161

Question:
Document feeder will initially feed, but then stop with a fart. I’ve cleaned all the rollers, reseated all connectors and blew out all the switches. Any ideas?

Answer: You mean a fart sound? It could be that the plastic flag between the primary and secondary upper feed rollers is out of position?
