| Subject: Minolta DI-2510 Intermittent Machine Gun Noise | ||||||||
|
Question: I’m missing something on this machine. It started out every 200 to 300 copies you would just hear a quick rumble or clicking noise, but it was over so fast (2 seconds) we couldn’t pinpoint the cause, but we thought it was the toner add motor or hopper. I’ve disassembled (what a pain in the arse), inspected, cleaned and lubed all the bushings, gears, and clutch but didn’t really see any problems other than having to put it back together. I ran a couple hundred copies and left. Now they’re saying the noise is back (1 week later). Anyone have any ideas? Thanks. Answer: Man, those are the worst… the odd intermittent noises that you cannot reproduce. The only things I can think of are the toner drive assembly (missing e-clip that holds the gear in position) or auguring assembly (over-toned), generic toner bottle that doesn’t seat properly, paper type issues, the imaging unit itself (mainly the gear and pin on the developer (DV) side that seats into the cover of the drum side), the tray lift assemblies (paper issues?) or the scanning. What is the count on the imaging unit? I would bring one of those and a toner bottle to start. You already know that the usual suspect is the drive assembly. Does the unit have a finisher? Good luck. Answer: I would go back to that toner clutch. The pin on the back plate of the assembly that holds the large white gear most likely is slightly bent. Since the machine only adds toner every 200 to 300 copies, replacing the clutch assembly would be a safe bet. Question: Thanks guys for replying. Yes, it does have a finisher but I’m with Keith, I think it might be in the toner add clutch even though I didn’t see anything wrong and there were no clips missing. I might as well swap out the image unit too since it would be quick and easy, and just to eliminate the possibility. Thanks again. Answer: The e-clip can be easily missed; be sure to put the updated assy in and make sure the bushing sticks out of the hole in the back when you seat this. That’s the shaft the clip comes off of. Question: Thanks. I’ll order the updated one. Thanks for the input. |

Question: I am a printer technician stuck with a copier the boss took in. Anyone have a service manual that covers the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) for the PC980? Answer: I bet it is the micro-switch on open/close? Does it show the jam right away without feeding? Answer: I agree. Generally if it’s not the micro-switch (or an obvious paper jam), it’s not worth fixing unless you work for free. Motors and troubleshooting time is not something customers will pay for on a 10-year-old personal copier. Micro-switch fixed about 90% of those years ago but as they get older, who knows. Question: You guys are good. Got a part number and source for the micro-switch? Thanks. Answer: The part is below, but you can buy a better one at your local electronics store - the OEM is 12 AMP; I use 15 AMP to get better life at one fourth the cost. When you tear down the one tension roller on the large ADF, the belt is cradled in molded plastic fingers— do not break them.

Question: I have an E-550 with a GL-1020. The copier works fine and they have no problem printing to it. They just can’t scan to email or scan to controller (file). When you do try to scan from the glass or ADF, the scanner won’t even move; you get the error message “Scan Kit Internal Error SK5”. I replaced the hard disk drive (HDD) and reloaded the system software to controller with no luck. I did call Toshiba support in Dallas and California. At this point they suspect it is the circuit board, but they are not positive. Hope somebody has the fix for it! Answer: What operation system is on the GL? If it is the original v1, then you need a dongle to enable scanning. If it is v2, then it is some other issue. Question: The version is 2.1.1.4 I believe. It is a few behind the most updated, but I looked at the updates of those newer versions, and they don’t have any fixes for this. Answer: This sounds like a firmware issue. I don’t think there’s any kind of “dongle” associated with this machine to accomplish scanning, but I could be wrong. Question: I replaced the copier HDD and that fixed the problem. |
