| Subject: E Studio 350 HVT 970 Error | ||||||||
|
Question: This copier does it again! Everything was fine until the machine shut down in the middle of printing and showed a C970 error. I replaced the corona unit even though I saw nothing wrong. No result. I changed the HVT board. No result. As soon as the HVT turns on during warm up, it errors out. Any ideas? Answer: You said you replaced the corona unit, which one? Both the charge corona and T/S coronas will generate a C970. Replace all three coronas. When you shove the cleaning unit into the copier, the charge corona couples up with the electrode off the HVT terminal. Make sure that the electrode is not bent and touching the frame. There are a lot of bulletins and various field mods to prevent C970, but from your description I do not believe any of those would apply. I think something is grounding out somewhere. Answer: I usually restring my own coronas on this family because of this issue and seldom have it come back. But it does sound like either a wire broke (main charge, transfer or separation) or you have a short somewhere. Answer: I string my own charge wires by HAND on this box and make them REALLY tight. The OEM wire is just too loose and the vibration is usually what throws the error. Strangely enough though, I have an e-450 in the shop that had just come in for resale that was doing this, and even after I restrung and replaced ALL THREE wires, the machine was still throwing this code. I know this is going to sound strange, but I checked the firmware level, and the thing was down around the 220 level (old). (I’ve never bought and installed the mod kit for the wire from Toshiba, choosing to try restringing my own wire, and it’s seemed to work for the last several years now). I did the successive levels and got to 4006 and the PROBLEM WENT AWAY....I ran a couple hundred copies to be sure it was really gone, but I was having it happen on initial power up EVERY time prior to doing this. I was really surprised, but I think the 970 code has something to do with firmware as well as coronas. I had thought I had seen this in the field on a 350 as well, and did a double-take, knowing that I had just done all the coronas on that box as well, but once I did the firmware on that box, the 970 code never came back, and that was 2 months ago. So, I’m pretty sure that there’s more to the 970 code than JUST the coronas..... Answer: I had a bad drum ground causing C970. When I changed the drum, it fixed the problem for good. Question: Hey guys. It turned out to be a bad T/S unit. The wires appear to be okay, but it errors out. I had another unit. Thanks for all the help. Answer: Hey OC. There was a firmware release (I forget which version) that “relaxed” the c970 code from incidental contact. Answer: Toshiba also released yet another update for this error; they put dampers on the end block covers of the main charge unit. I have installed them on every unit I have run into this problem with and so far so good |

Question: This machine jams only in the morning. If the customer has received a fax overnight, it will be jammed coming out of the machine. About 4” still in exit area. Jam 2. This is a new machine. Has anyone seen this before? Answer: I have never had this problem, but someone did mention that the tray can be too deep into the machine or too shallow. They mentioned spacing it or something. When they read this post they will respond. I think it was Tue. I quit selling machine because it won’t detect legal. Answer: I just had the same problem, and the Samsung tech support had me replace the HVT. didn’t fix it on the exit assembly. The black lower rollers had huge burrs scotch-brited them (this sentence doesn’t make sense to a layman) and they haven’t had a jam in a week. Good luck Answer: The little spacer on the back of the tray was for a different kind of jam—the rear corner of the paper was getting caught feeding out of tray. Be curious to know the solution to this though... Answer: I also think you should take off the top and inspect the exit assembly— sounds like the culprit. Answer: We sale and service Samsung copiers / mfps. Samsung has moved from Cal to NJ, and they forgot to bring tech support with them, providing NO SUPPORT! Look above the fusing unit at the black plastic exit guides. If you use a SMALL flat blade screwdriver and rub it on the ribbed surface, you will find little balls of hardened toner built up. They will cause paper to stick or jam. Scrape them off with the screwdriver, and the machine should work ok.

| Subject: Toshiba 4511CF-20 codes | ||||||||
|
Question: Hello, I have a 4511 POS that has two things going on. I get CF 20 codes and when it is not giving the code, color prints come out only in yellow. The other developers turn, and I know the gears are good. I have changed all the developer mix and when I ran the dev sim code, all the developers cycle correctly. When I get the CF 20 code in the 08-824, it shows magenta error. I also tried different developer units. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Answer: Clean the developer sensor in the upper left corner of the machine. Clean the gray patch with air only or you will need to order a new one. Also check the revolver for backlash and broken gears. Answer: There’s a clutch for the belt cleaning assy. You need to clean it or replace it. Yellow is the first color when the belt turns; make sure to 0 all color developer counts, and check each developer mag roller. Make sure all are filled well because any little space will error out. Most likely, the problem is that clutch... Answer: I’ve had some CF codes related to the bad Bias Connector on the front frame, not touching the color developer units as they rotate. Question: Thanks for the suggestions guys. It appears that it was the transfer belt cleaning unit clutch. When I got there this morning, it was still doing the problem and I changed the cleaning unit first and it worked after that. So for now, everything looks good. Thanks for the help. |
