Subject: Minolta DI250 smudges

Question:
I have a Minolta that is driving me crazy. After 3-4 copies, the copies get smudge marks in the middle of the page; they almost have the shadow of what has been printed already but runs fine on single copies. Any help is appreciated. I changed the drum and blade and changed the upper fuser roller.

Answer: Remove your fuser from the machine, turn it upside down and check the fuser guide plate. It may be caked up with excess toner and scraping the paper as it goes through the fuser. The fuser guide plate can be cleaned and may be adjustable. I’ve seen this many times and the smudging doesn’t start until the excess toner gets a little on the warm side. This is why you don’t see it on a single copy.

Answer: Try another transfer roller.

Answer: If changing the transfer roller does not help, make sure you are using OEM toner and not a generic brand.

Question: Today I went back and changed the complete IU and installed a new transfer roller. I also checked the fuser for toner buildup, but found none. So far, there are no marks.

Subject: Konica bizhub 7255

Question: I have an error code SC49-01 on this machine. What does this code mean? Thanks in advance.

Answer: The code signals a Communication problem with the ip511, the board, hdd or cooling fan.

Answer: You need to make sure the firmware is up to date and make sure they shut this down before turning the machine off. Not doing so will corrupt the firmware. This is the controller not booting up properly; there are bulletins on this issue.

Answer: Bad print controller hard drive
Subject: Ricoh Aficio 1045 error 352

Question: Can someone please tell me what an error 352 is.

Answer: SC 352: ID Sensor/Pattern Edge Detect Error 3 Magenta TD Sensor Initial setting error.

Answer: Magenta? Ha-ha, it’s a black and white machine. Your drum unit is shot. You can clean the ID sensor and redo SP-3001-2 but chances are you will need a drum unit.

Answer: I went out this morning and did what you recommended, but it did not reset. I did notice that the message USED TONER BOTTLE IS FULL is also on the screen. The customer forgot to mention this. I looked everywhere for the used toner bottle and could not find one. So I am assuming that it is on the image unit.

Answer: Waste toner is in the transfer unit under the belt.

Answer: Emptying the waste is easy. 2 springs on transfer, 6 screws, remove belt assembly. Empty and vac. Sounds like you have two problems. Waste toner full shouldn’t cause that service code. Check the drum for wear closely.
Subject: Sharp AR-407 H4-01

Question: Two weeks ago, I had a call for h4-01. Everything metered fine. Cleared the code and all was OK till now. H4-01 came back. What’s the most likely culprit to cause this on an AR-407? I was thinking thermistors but thought I’d better check with the collective first. Thanks.

Answer: It could be the lamp, or it may very well be the small board on the front of the fuser. This board should have been replaced with a current board.

Answer: These are famous for building up toner on the thermistor. Make sure it doesn’t have a black rock of toner built up on the thermistor.

Answer: My experience has been that the H4-01 is thrown usually after the machine comes out of preheat or first thing in the morning. It is the nature of the beast. Set preheat modes to max. Update firmware. That usually takes care of it or minimizes it much. Good luck.
