Question: I have a 1055 that started out giving me an intermittent sc542; it would only do it about every couple of weeks. Replacing the thermistor didn’t help; now the OP panel has died—there is no display but the buttons still work. I can go to service mode but can’t get around without seeing it. I have tried replacing the OP panel, but that wasn’t it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Answer: Without an OP panel, you’re snookered. Go to another account close by, grab an OP panel and start there. Question: I have swapped the OP panel, the buttons work (I think), and it sounds like it goes into service mode but there is still no display. A new OP panel does the same thing. Answer: Is there a contrast control and is it mounted to the OP panel or elsewhere? Question: It’s not that— that was the first thing I told them when they called. And of course I checked it myself. Answer: It may be the voltage going to the backlight. Your panel may actually be working but the backlight might not. I had one go flaky (on a 401) but I was lucky, resoldering the wires took care of it. Answer: I’ve had a few of these do the exact same thing to me, and I had to unplug the machine for a few minutes, pull out the fusing unit and then plug the machine back in. Then it would power up but still have the SC. Then I would go into the service mode and turn off power to make it reset the SC. Make sure your thermister is good and the thermostats are not open. Make sure the thermostat housing is not cracked where it screws onto the upper frame. This will cause the thermostats to open due to the vibration I guess. Hope this helps. Answer: Try the power supply unit and let me know. Good luck buddy. |

Question: All I have to say is why? This was going to be an easy call until I got there and they said not only does it need a cleaning, but the toner light stays on, and they just put toner it. They also swapped in another DV unit from a junker and the same thing occurs. I work with Canon by trade, but I have worked on a few of these. Could it be a motor in the back or a board? I do have a junker if I need parts but what a pain in the buttocks. Thank you for your help guys; have a great day. Answer: Are you sure it’s not the waste toner light? Or is the Mag Roller turning? Answer: The cleaning blade could be going bad. I just had this very problem with one last week. Answer: Yeah, what he said. The cleaning blade could be it if it misbehaves like the Sharp 7900s did but it’s not “intuitive” as they say these days. Weird; the blade fails, the drum is coated and the machine apparently can’t add toner fast enough and calls for toner. Replace the blade and problem will be solved. Check if the drum is coated; it so, that’s probably it, even if it doesn’t make sense. As I recall, even if you pull the charge corona (which you would think would cause the drum to not draw anymore toner [analog machine] the problem still exists until the blade is changed. I might be wrong about this part but I think I tried it once. Answer: It’s probably the discharge lamp assy. They burn out half at a time. This will also cause the drum to be coated and constantly add toner. Answer: My advice is based on a little quirk that pops into my head when I read this model number...I read 2020 “also” or twenty-twenty-too. My response is to replace it or RUN. This wasn’t a good model in its best days and those days are long gone. Bash me if you like but I don’t profit from doing 25 recalls on a one hour service call. Answer: 2022, 2027, 2035 were a bit different than 2020. I believe they ran pretty decent. I think they were probably around a “B” whereas 2020, 2016, 2018 would be C- or so. And their predecessor, the 7900 would probably get a B+ for its day. It would have been an A if not for so many dumb fuser problems, mostly because of that one stupid little gear! Answer: Check the drive in the back of the machine and make sure the orange DV drive gear is turning. I agree here. The 2022, 27.35 was a completely different animal then the 2020. It is a much better box. |
