Subject: Canon IR 2016J

Question: This copier gave about three to four inches of hazy copies, and the copies were also reduced perpendicular to scanner. I opened the scanner, which is a contact image sensor like used in a fax machine. I cleaned its fiber optical unit while fitted in the assy. After fitting it, it started giving blank copies. Any ideas?

Answer: “I opened the scanner, which is a contact image sensor like used in a fax machine. I cleaned its fiber optical unit while fitted in the assy. After fitting it, it started giving blank copies.”  I read your post, and it sounds like you broke the “CIS” unit. That would be my two cents.

Question: Thanks for your input. I broke the ribbon cable or maybe it was cracked already as it was giving problems, and I broke it fully. Anyway, thanks buddy.

Subject: Toshiba 2060

Question: Copies come out unfused with developer carryover. Copies are good if there is little coverage area (e.g. a one paragraph letter). If I change the developer and calibrate, will it fix my problem, or is it more complicated? The machine has a new drum and blade.

Answer: The developer is probably old and starting to drop, yes. Change the developer and perform the auto toner set up. It should be good to go. Good luck

Answer: After you change the dev, if toner is not fusing, check the heat roller bushings. Make sure you have another set before removing it; these go often. Also check for a flat spot on the press roll. (You may even hear a slight thumping noise)

Answer: Check other post on this board. Easy to do. Yes, I would change dev as already said. Fusing problem is in fuser. Check bushing as stated and the spring tension on lower roller. Move springs to give the most tension.

Answer: Check to see if white caps on top of the fuser are there. Without them, the pressure is less. I am pretty sure they are still used on this model.

Answer: The 2060 does not have the white fuser caps for pressure.

Subject: Canon NP1020

Question: What is the secret of removing the Fuser Unit?  Magic Latch or Hidden Screws?

Answer: Well if we tell you, then it won’t be a secret anymore.

Answer: This is no easy task. You need to remove the main motor, and also need to remove the two screws that hold brackets, which will allow you to really open the (clamshell) copier. Then there are four screws that hold the actual fuser in frame: Thermistor connector in front, ac connector in the rear, remove exit door, 1 screw and plastic fitting, then door slides out. Are you a tech? If not, need to hire a pro. Otherwise, I gave you the pertinent info, as to removing this baby. If you are a tech, and need further assistance shoot me an email, and I will try my best to help you. Good luck.

Question: Yes - I am a tech - just don’t normally work on the Canons. (Konica - Minolta - Toshiba - Samsung) I got the fuser out; I am in the process of replacing the upper and lower fuser units. You are right; it’s not as easy as the other machines.  I’ll let you know if I need any other help.  Thanks

Question: Got it done - wasn’t hard, just a pain in the ***.   Thanks again!

Subject: Sharp AR 200 L6 code

Question: Can anyone tell me what this code is? If it’s the laser unit-is the laser unit easy to get out? Thanks.....

Answer: L6 is a polygon motor problem. Check the harness and connectors. Run sim 25-10 to check motor. You might need to replace the LSU.

Answer: To answer your other question. NO, the laser is not easy on that machine. You can figure 1-2 hours.

Answer: If it’s a plain AR200 without adf and print board and fax, it’s not too bad.

Answer: If you haven’t done one before, the machine should go to the shop for the job.

Subject: Toshiba DP2460 Locks up

Question: I have a Toshiba DP2460 that will lock up overnight (the display shows everything but nothing can be manipulated). Turning off and back on will reset the copier for the day. Could this be a display problem, low voltage problem, or firmware problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Answer: That was a common problem if that is what you’re experiencing. There are two brass contacts that sit on top of the drum unit that must stick up through the cover. When you install the drum unit, these contacts make ground to frame (top front of copier). Might want to take a look.

Answer: That machine was prone to pre clean charger failure, melting contact area. While you’re in there, checking that contact on top of drum, take a close look at the preclean area.

Subject: Toshiba 162D equivalent

Question: I have this Toshiba that I think needs a main board. I have a few AR and AL sharps, but their boards were slightly different. Anyone knows which Sharp is the same??

Answer: AR168D
